I’m finally doing it, I’m blogging my travel. Every trip, every time I step foot off of an airplane, I promise myself I am going to write about it. I haven’t done it… yet. I want to remember these adventures. I want to remember that Japan has humidity so dense you basically inhale salt water. I want to remember that the local food menu of England is so familiar, yet so foreign. I want to remember the feeling of a local foreign language that flows around you becoming a soft, distant soundtrack that your brain automatically tunes out.
Photos can’t explain the cultural gaps, the politics, the religion, the uncomfortable questions. Do people actually like living here? Who holds the power? Who doesn’t? What’s the worldview? The history? The tension under the surface?
Traveling is more than collecting Instagrammable moments. It’s walking into someone else’s reality and trying — even briefly — to understand it. Only then can you say you’re actually exploring, not just vacationing.
My hope is that these posts push you to put the phone down, hop into a random car in a random country, and let the world rearrange you a little.
**** Since this is my first post, I feel obligated to insert a disclaimer. These are my opinions and they are simply that, opinions. This was my interpretation of my travels and the experiences I had. It may not represent how you would see the country or the culture and it may not agree with your worldview. That is ok, I won’t be offended if you move on.
My first post will be to commemorate our first trip in the South Pacific – New Zealand!
